CALGARY, ALBERTA — New opportunities to harvest stronger value and performance benefits from dairy and beef feed are the focus as Canadian Bio-Systems (CBS Inc.) welcomes a new addition to its expanding nutrition team.
Nutritionist Sabrina Zettell bolsters CBS lineup
Nutritionist Sabrina Zettell, based out of Guelph, Ont., joins CBS Inc. with an initial focus on servicing North American markets. Zettell adds to the company’s rising focus on advancing innovative feed technology solutions for the dairy and beef sectors, including through optimized delivery of the new CBS Inc. REP5 (Ruminant Enhancement Program 5) initiative. She will also support additional livestock sectors.
We are very pleased to welcome Sabrina to our growing nutrition team,” says Rob Patterson, Director of Technical Services with CBS Inc. “She brings a strong combination of technical expertise and industry experience that is an excellent fit to support our expanded nutrition programs and product portfolio, including our enhanced focus on ruminant nutrition.
New frontiers of opportunity
New frontiers of opportunity are opening for getting more value and benefits from ruminant nutrition approaches, with advances in bio-based feed supplements leading the way, says Patterson. Integrated approaches utilizing the benefits of multiple feed enhancement options are a rising trend.
“It’s a tremendous opportunity to join Canadian Bio-Systems at a time when bio-based, feed-based innovations are becoming an increasingly powerful factor in the success of livestock operations,” says Zettell. “My background and interests have always been driven by a passion for advancing animal agriculture, based on science-based solutions that make a true difference on the farm. I look forward to working with CBS Inc. customers, partners and the industry at large in this new role.”
Zettell’s educational background includes undergraduate and master’s degrees in animal biosciences at the University of Guelph, including a master’s thesis on Omega-3 fortification in milk. Her career has included over 13 years in the feed industry, primarily in nutrition and formulation roles with a strong focus on ruminants.
Championing new REP5 program
Zettell’s initial work will include a key focus on assisting customers in taking advantage of REP5, an integrated program designed to help operations optimize the benefits of five top CBS Inc. products that feature advantages for ruminant production. Another initial priority will be helping customers adopt nutritional solutions to support systems with reduced reliance on antimicrobials, as the trend toward further restrictions and greater use of alternatives continues.
“Livestock industries are in the midst of a critical time of transition, with developments such as the Veterinary Feed Directive in the U.S. and similar increasing restrictions expected in Canada,” says Zettell. “The importance of optimizing nutrition and feed enhancement approaches has never been more in the spotlight. It’s a very opportune time for innovation in feed and nutrition approaches for ruminants that I’m excited to participate in as part of the CBS team.”
